Even today the majority of tourists visiting Kenya still prefer taking a Safari entirely by road. The tour typically starts and ends in Nairobi, with the choice of vehicles being a the Safari Minibus / Tour Van or the more costly 4x4 Landcruiser Safari Jeep . The advantage of a safari tour by road is that you get to see and experience the 'real' Kenya and its rural countryside as well as the lower cost of surface transport. A Fly -in Safari simply means that you would take a flight from Nairobi to the desired National Park of Reserve in Kenya instead of getting there by road. Flights operate mostly from the domestic Wilson airport in Nairobi and upon arrival at the airstrip in the respective National Park, you will be received and transfered to your respective Camp or Lodge by a waiting Driver-Guide in a 4x4 Safari vehicle. Game drives too are provided in 4x4 Safari vehicles by the property ( camp or lodge).

There are two basic types of Safari vehicles used in Kenya and Tanzania for wildlife and adventure safaris. These are the Tour Minibus / Van and the 4x4 Toyota Landcruiser Jeeps.
